R

RAM (Random Access Memory):
The most common form of computer memory in which the CPU stores data that is currently in use. RAM is usually volatile memory, meaning that when the computer is turned off, crashes, or loses power it is lost. More RAM means faster processing.
Raster Image:
An image composed of a rectangular grid of pixels. Each pixel contains a defined value about its color, size, and location in the image. Therefore, resizing the image can affect its quality.
Real Time Image Processing:
A data processing system that responds immediately to the user. Image processing that executes each function immediately and displays it at a high enough resolution to be viewed.
Recursive:
A procedure that can repeat itself indefinitely, such as for a slide show.
Render:
The final step of an image transformation or three-dimensional scene through which a new image is refreshed on the screen.
Resize:
To alter the resolution or the horizontal or vertical size of an image.
Resolution:
The quality and clarity of an image, measured in pixels, dots per inch, or pixels per inch.
RGB:
A color model that uses red, green, and blue as its primary colors.
ROM (Read Only Memory):
This form of memory can be read but not updated or changed by a computer. It refers to specific electronics in a computer; however non-alterable disks like CDs or CD ROMs are another type of read only memory. It is non-volatilebecausedoes not disappear when power is shut off.
RIP (Raster Image Processing):
A piece of hardware or software that converts object-oriented graphics and fonts into the bitmaps required for output on a printer.
ROM:
Read Only Memory. ROM can be read and not updated or changed by the computer. Usually ROM refers to specific electronics in a computer; however non-alterable disks like CDs or CD ROMs are another type of read only memory. Read Only Memory is non-volatile--it does not disappear when power is shut off.
